In 1989, Storm Gay’s devastation caused the 4,400-ton oil drilling vessel SEACREST to sink while doing gold drilling at a goldfish production facility.Thailand’s Gulf,Six persons out of a total of 91 killed survived.

64 Thais, 8 Singaporeans, 7 Americans, 4 Australians, 4 British, 3 Canadians, 2 Dutch, 2 Filipinos, 1 Italian, 1 New Zealander, and 1 German make up the total of 97 passengers and crew on board the SEACREST. There were 91 fatalities, 6 survivors, 1 Indonesian, and 5 Thais.
Three days after the SEACREST ship capsized, the survivors were discovered floating in the water wearing life jackets.

93.8 percent of the crew were killed, according to the death toll.

Typhoon Gay’s power played a direct role in the ship’s cause of capsize. Eight anchors were used to hold the ship’s hull in place, but the typhoon’s powerful winds and waves ripped off all the head anchors, leaving only the side anchors. Due to the combination of severe winds, a high drilling tower, and blocking waves, the ship was in a windy condition. weighing 200 tons on the digging tower, including the weight of the drill pipe. resulting in the ship losing balance and capsize.

An essential case study for the oil drilling sector is the one involving the SEACREST oil rig. As a result, the Typhoon Evacuation Plan was carefully developed, and from October to March every year, typhoon surveillance and evacuation procedures were closely adhered to.
